A police officer has suffered numerous head lacerations after a 27-year-old man punched him in the head up to 20 times during a frenzied attack in Sydney's CBD.
Officers responded to reports of a man verbally abusing staff at a fast food restaurant on Oxford Street, in Surry Hills, in the early hours of Sunday morning, when the man allegedly turned on police.
Police allege one officer was hit repeatedly in the head, while another was struck once in the forehead during the early morning scuffle.
The first officer was treated for 'numerous cuts' to his head, while the second man suffered some 'swelling and bruising'.
The man was apprehended when back-up arrived several minutes later.
