It was indeed a proud moment for our country as Indian women shuttlers Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa brought home the trophy for the Canada Open Women's Doubles. The Indian duo played against Dutch pair Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek in the nail-biting final clash.
Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa dominated the game and raced to 5-0 points in the second game, finally bringing the score to 15-6 in the final run. The Dutch pair struggled hard to get the nine points to tie the game at the score of 15-15. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa took the Dutch duo's hurried decision to their advantage and took a strike to win 6 out of the next 7 points that helped them bag the winners' title.
Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa became a shuttling pair during the 2012 Olympic Games and this is their first title win together.
Ashwini tweeted thanking all her fans and supporters on her official twitter account.
