Aster Medcity Hospital, India in partnership with a non-governmental organisation, Heart Aid Trust in Jos, Plateau State, has alleviated the suffering of about 40 under privileged paediatric congenital cardiac patients by providing them with free diagnosis and consultations.
Aster Medcity, a 670-bed quaternary care hospital from Kochi, India, has been in the forefront of treating high risk surgical cases which need advanced equipment and skill.. Aster Medcity provides robotic surgeries in specific specialities while Heart Aid Trust has been helping the underprivileged paediatric congenital cardiac patients by diagnosis and suggesting corrective surgeries through various centres in Nigeria and India.
Heart Aid Trust is an NGO and chaired by Prof Bode Thomas a renowned paediatric cardiologist from Jos. Prof Thomas is a well known personality in Nigerian healthcare for her efforts in educating the masses on paediatric cardiac congenital diseases.
Aster Medcity Hospital was represented by Dr Sajan Koshy, a senior consultant, Paediatric Cardiac Surgery. He was invited by Radio Nigeria, Jos on a programme sponsored by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Jos chapter, to discuss the prevalence and prevention of congenital heart diseases.
Dr Koshy stressed the need for early diagnosis of the disease so as to correct the deformity early.
