A major power outage at LaGuardia Airport's Terminal C Friday has caused more than 100 flights cancellations.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Steve Coleman said power went out at 4:30 a.m. Friday.
Just after 10 a.m. Friday, Delta said 119 flights were canceled since the airline has not been able to operate out of Terminal C. They hope to be operational by noon.
Terminal C serves Delta Airlines and US Airways. Flights have not resumed, but Coleman said Delta expected its communication system to be back sometime shortly after 9 a.m.
A contractor accidentally cut through two electrical feeder cables serving portions of Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport, delaying flights. The contractor was involved in construction in the airfield at the time.
"There are no injuries and electrical staff are working on repairs," said a Port Authority spokesperson in a news release. "TSA checkpoints are operating. Portions of Terminal C and parking lots 4 and 5, as well as passenger loading bridges are affected. LaGuardia staff are currently in the process of starting generators to assist with the power issue. Within the hour, the jet bridge, the movable connector which extends from an airport terminal gate to an airplane, will be operating."
Power was restored to the terminal jet bridges as of 8:30 a.m.
The Port Authority is installing generators to power the jet bridges, which will allow service to resume.
