after WikiLeaks hacked into the US Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails and released their private email communication, they released voicemails of the DNC. The voicemails are related to the batch of about 20,000 leaked emails WikiLeaks published earlier this week, which revealed that people within the supposedly neutral DNC were in fact working to help Hillary Clinton secure the Democratic nomination against Bernie Sanders. According to CNN: 

Wikileaks released a series of voicemails Wednesday from the Democratic National Committee hack showing donors plying top-level officials for favors, and one donor expressing outrage that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders had won a say in the drafting of the party's platform.

In one of the 29 voicemails released, a woman who donated $300 to Clinton called the party finance director Andrew Wright and said she was angry the party was acquiescing to Sanders by allowing liberal activist and prominent Sanders surrogate Cornel West to have one of 15 seats on the party's platform-writing panel.

"I'm furious about what you are doing for Bernie Sanders, he's getting way too much influence. I'm on a fixed income, I spent over $300, donated to Hillary, what I see is the DNC bending over backwards for Bernie and Bernie is the worst person in the world to even be running in the Democratic Party, because he's not a Democrat," said the unidentified woman in a voicemail that was sent to Wright's DNC email account.

In another voicemail, Bill Eacho, a longtime Democratic donor and former U.S. ambassador, inquired about the details of a "small dinner with President Obama."

The voicemails are related to the batch of about 20,000 leaked emails WikiLeaks published earlier this week, which revealed that elements within the supposedly neutral DNC were in fact working to help Hillary Clinton secure the Democratic nomination. Those emails ultimately led DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz announcing her resignation. But most of the released voicemails amount to innocuous messages from one person trying to reach someone else.

A few of the messages highlight the relationships between donors looking for favors and goodies, and the party officials trying to bring in money to their coffers.

The owner of WikiLeaks Julian Assange told CNN in an interview that DNC officials were taking advantage of the possibility of Russia's involvement in the hack to distract voters from the contents of the emails, which have revealed shocking internal discord and collusion.

Speaking from the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where Assange has resided for five years now, he said:

"It raises questions about the natural instincts of Clinton that when confronted with a serious domestic political scandal, she tries to blame the Russians, blame the Chinese, et cetera. Because if she does that while in government, it could lead to problems."

The central Bank Of Nigeria(CBN), yesterday, jerked up its Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) to 14%, that causes critisims from business expect who predict that the hike will lead to increased corporate failure, unemployment and decline in the nation's stock market. 

The CBN, raised the MPR from 12 % to 14% at the end of the Monetary Policy Committee(MPC) meeting that took place at Abuja, retaining the Asymmetric Window at +200 and -500 basis point rate. 

The apex bank also retained the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) and the Liquidity Ratio at 22.50 per cent and 30.00 per cent, respectively. Governor of the CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, who announced the outcome of the MPC meeting, said that the move was towards ensuring price stability as it would attract more inflow of foreign exchange into the country. Justifying the new rate, he said, “Basically, the issues were that you notice during the May meeting, the MPC decide to say look, if we notice the balance between inflation and growth that we should stay with growth and expect that growth.   But given the fact that monetary authorities cannot directly influence, we expect that working with fiscal authorities, we can achieve growth But at this meeting,  we took a lot of time to deliberate on whether to favour growth as against inflation. “We felt that there was a need in line with the CBN core mandate to look at price stability at a time- that if we favour price stability at this time and it signals an interest rate movement that will curtail inflation that when we curtail inflation, a lot more stakeholders interests would have been met, thereby encouraging in this case the inflow of capital into the country. “And as we have more inflow of foreign exchange into the country, what that does is that it deepens forex supply base and by deepening the forex  supply base it makes  forex  available to end users , particularly to the manufacturing sector who need raw materials to boost manufacturing and industrial capacity and we are also hoping that when this is achieved, what you find is that naturally, prices would be affected downwards. “When you have a situation when foreign exchange is also made available to those who want to import agriculture inputs, insecticides or plants it helps to boost agric productivity which will also help to moderate the effects on prices downwards. “What this does is that it generally creates activities that would boost not just manufacturing outputs but will indirectly push growth forward. That was purely the essence of let’s push to the direction of inflation and price stability which was the focus of this meeting against growth. “It didn’t mean that we didn’t have growth at the back of our minds.   But we felt let’s start by looking at price stability.   Push towards curtailing inflation, and at the same time ultimately see how we can achieve growth in the same vein.” Hike will worsen economic situation Analysts however faulted the decision of the MPC to hike the MPR saying it would worsen the economic situation in the country. “This is not an answer to recession, the answer is to make more money available, but the CBN has decided to be tactical because growth is a long term goal”, commented Mr. Bismarck Rewane,   Managing Director/Chief Executive, Financial Derivatives Limited “He stated that the MPR hike, “Is a formalisation of what is happening in the money market, where treasury bills rate are already higher than 14 percent hence it would not have effect on interest rate in the market. But it will increase cost of borrowing especially for small and medium enterprise (SMEs), increase default on debt, corporate failures and hence increase unemployment. It will also increase cost of borrowing for state governments. It will increase appetite for regulatory borrowing, because banks would now prefer to buy treasury bills and bonds which now offers higher rate. However it will make the naira to strengthen. According to the Managing Director, APT Securities and Funds, Mr. Garba Kurfi, “ The upward increase in interest rate by the CBN is not the best at the moment if government is serious in encouraging local production.   This is because high interest rate will make the cost of production higher if producers are to get loan at higher rate from the financial institutions. The high interest rate will discourage investments in the capital market if one can get 14 per cent risk free from the money market. This move apparently is likely to promote money market but with the inflation rate at 16.5 per cent may encourage”. Also commenting, Head, Investment Research, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Edgar Ebinum said,   “The reason for the hike is obvious but it is challenging for capital market, and it would stifle borrowing.  While it is necessary to ensure a positive real return, by making the interest rate higher than inflation, but investors look beyond interest rate, the conditions in the economy is still not attractive to foreign investors The decision will cause the real sector to slow down, because there would be reduction in lending to the sector. In fact the hike makes lending more difficult for banks. The banks are already battling against rising non-performing loans and hence have reduced lending activities”. Speaking in the same vein, Managing Director, High Cap Securities Limited,   Mr. David Adonri said, “The increase in MPR to nearly match inflation rate is expected response from the monetary authority. It will crowd out credit from real sector and depress equities market. The manufacturers would be affected as credit would be on the rise. Response of fiscal authority should be to reduce domestic borrowing and move towards fiscal consolidation” On his part, Mr. Kunle Ezun, a research analysts with  Econbank Plc noted, “The decision was expected and the expectation has been factored into transactions in the money market. Remember that TBs were been sold at 14 per cent last week. That is why the market is calm. “I also believe that the 200 basis point raise is sufficient to address the rising inflation level now. The reality is that inflation level is more of consideration to foreign investors and they are not in the market now. The local guys don’t really bother about inflation.” The hike in MPR was however commended by Managing Director, Chief Economist,Africa, Standard Chartered Bank, Mrs  Razia Khan.  She said, “The decision to raise the monetary policy rate despite growth concerns will give investors a clear signal on the authorities’ intent to sustain FX reforms.   This should be well-received. “Given the cost-push nature of inflation in Nigeria, which largely stems from the shortage of FX, we believe that this was the right thing to have done.   Today’s monetary policy decision demonstrates a commitment to FX liberalisation, which alone will undo some of the bottlenecks that have contributed to inflation. “As Nigeria embarks upon the path of reform (FX liberalisation, fuel price deregulation, transparency initiatives, efforts to boost revenue mobilisation, power sector reforms), all with a view to easing the economy’s transition to lower oil prices, and creating the foundation for more sound long-term growth, we think that today’s MPC decision represented an important initial step in the right direction. Chief Executive Officer, SOFUNIX Investment and Communications Ltd and Chartered Stockbroker     Mr. Sola Oni,  said The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has pushed up the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) from 12 per cent to 14 per cent on the basis that the existing nominal anchor is a disincentive to investment for both foreign and indigenous investors, particularly, when compared to the current inflation rate. In portfolio management, the logical assumption is that relationship between interest rate and stock market is inverse. This implies that when interest rate is low, speculators move their funds from the   money market instruments’ to the stock market to make a kill. As a corollary, the same speculators move from the stock market to other asset classes, especially, fixed income securities when the interest rate is high. By this logic, one can assume that the current increase in the MPR would boost investment in the fixed income securities while it may depress investors’ appetite for equity investment. But the fact remains that it is not always so as economists would say ceteris paribus which means all things being equall. There are many exogenous factors that affect investment decision at the level of investment objective. As for the economy, the stock market mirrors the economy. Therefore, it is not cast in iron to just conclude that the CBN’s increase of the MPC to a 10 -year high will have negative impact on the stock market.

"All these are ways and means of energising the economy and deal with some of the harshest problems like poverty," says the Vice President while also adding that despite the current economic conditions in the country there is great hope.

According to him, "we are here at this time because that is the will of God to deliver the goods and do the right things for this country. It is very interesting the situation we find ourselves, but there is great hope." 
The Vice President said both the president and himself are committed to a new united Nigeria, populated by a 'New Tribe' that would be united across otherwise divisive lines be it ethnic or religious. He added that Nigerians must fight corruption which is responsible for the current situation of things in the country, stressing that if it is not challenged, corruption would worsen the situation.

He added that as a people "we should never be divided on religion and ethnicity, everyone is free to practice their own faith. When we come together as a people we must advance the interest of our nation."

Earlier the President of the Muslim Lawyers Association, Dr. Kamal Alhaji Daud praised both the president and the vice president pledging the association's support in the fight against corruption and also prayed for wisdom and strength for the Buhari presidency. The group had held a lecture entitled Service Above Self, in honour of the Vice President.

India shuns Nigeria’s crude, turns to Malaysia, Brunei

India’s Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited,BPCL has  issued a spot tender to purchase several Malaysian light sweet crude grades, raising expectations that more Indian end-users could switch their focus to Southeast Asian supplies amid growing uncertainty over the exports of Nigerian crude grades.


Crude Oil BPCL is seeking up to one million barrels of various Southeast Asian light sweet crudes, including Malaysia’s Miri Light, Labuan, Tapis, Kikeh, Kimanis and Bintulu as well as Brunei’s Seria Light and Champion crudes for loading over September 11-20, according to an official tender notice seen by S&P Global Platts. The latest spot tender is said to have raised a few eyebrows in the Asia-Pacific sweet crude market, as the Indian state-owned company does not regularly seek Malaysian and Bruneian crude grades in the spot market. However, BPCL’s latest move was seen as necessary, as the procurement of any Nigerian crude grades would be a big risk amid ongoing production hiccups caused by militant attacks in the Niger Delta, a company source. “BPCL, like many other Indian state-run companies, prefer to take Nigerian light sweet crudes like Qua Iboe and Bonny Light. Those are the number one choices,” the source said, adding that “when production (of light sweet Nigerian grades) is in doubt, the next best option would be Malaysian (grades).” Last week, ExxonMobil said Nigerian crude Qua Iboe has been placed under force majeure and exports were halted, while Italian company, Eni, confirmed earlier this month that 4,000 barrels per day, b/d, of oil equivalent of equity production had been shut-in following an attack claimed by militants in the Niger Delta. Nigerian militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, said weekend that it would not permit foreign oil companies operating in the Niger Delta region to carry out repairs on bombed oil pipelines, threatening more devastating attacks on any repaired facility. “There is no guarantee the Nigerian crudes will load and set sail safely. It’s very risky,” said a Singapore-based sweet crude trader.

The police spokesman said the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone2, Abdulmajid Ali, has ordered thorough investigation into the matter and the suspects be charged to court.

98 per cent say NO to EU deal: Forget talks with Brussels and quit NOW, urges new poll

Former Tory cabinet minister John Redwood has led a cross party group of MPs which has come up with a plan to get Britain out of the EU “in just a matter of weeks”.

The simple solution, also backed by Labour Leave, would be to trigger article 50 by repealing the 1972 European Communities Act and then informing the EU that the UK is no longer a member but intends to trade tariff free.

If the EU then decides to impose tariffs then Britain would respond but because the UK has a trade deficit with the EU of  almost £24 billion a trade war would be more damaging to European countries especially Germany which could lose its biggest car market.

New Brexit Secretary David Davis has suggested that Article 50 could be triggered early in 2017 and Britain could be out by the end of 2018.

A Downing Street spokeswoman insisted that the time taken was about getting Britain the best deal.

She said: "We have been very clear that Brexit means brexit - and we are going to make a success of it.

“That means we are already making progress in preparations to leave the EU, and are committed to getting the best deal possible for the whole of the UK".

But amid concerns over unnecessary delays, Mrs May told MEPs that it could “take months” before the process begins properly.

The Tory leader in the European Parliament Syed Kamall said: "We were starting to talk about the different areas of negotiations, not coming to any conclusions yet.

First Minister Ms Sturgeon provoked claims that she is trying to “blackmail” the UK Government into ignoring the democratic will of the British people after making a speech threatening a second independence referendum if Brexit happens.

In a speech at a Scottish thinktank, the SNP First Minister claimed independence could offer Scots “greatest certainty” as she revealed her demands for keeping the country’s links with the EU.

The threat of trying to trigger another referendum less than two years after Scots overwhelmingly rejected independence despite a promise at the time by Ms Sturgeon that it was a “once in a generation event”.

19 dead and 45 wounded as a man with knife goes on rampage at building for disabled in Japan

At least 19 people were killed and at least 45 wounded in a knife attack Tuesday at a facility for the handicapped in a city just west of Tokyo in a rare case of mass violence in Japan, according to Japanese media reports. Police said they responded to a call about 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday from an employee saying that they saw a man dressed in black clothes holding a weapon in the grounds of the Tsukui Yamayuri Garden and that something horrible was happening at the facility in the city of Sagamihara. 

 2 hours after the incident, a man turned himself in at a police station, police in Sagamihara said but left the knife in his car when he entered the station. Police say a 26-year-old man who was a former staff member confessed to the stabbings. The suspect reportedly escaped the facility but then turned himself in He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and trespassing. Police said there were several casualties but did not provide any numbers.

Four of the injured are said to be in a serious condition.

Japan's national broadcaster NHK reported the suspect's name as Tsukui Yamayuri-en.

Television footage showed a number of ambulances parked outside the facility, with medical and other rescue workers running in and out. Mass killings are relatively rare in Japan, which has extremely strict gun-control laws.

Syrian refugee kills pregnant woman and injures two in Germany

An eyewitness explained to Germany's Bild newspaper: 

”The man was completely out of his mind. 

“He ran with his machete even behind a patrol car.

“A BMW driver then accelerated and ran over him.

“He then lay prostrate on the ground and did not move.”

People were seen fleeing the scene as the man carried out the fatal attack on a warm, sunny Sunday where people were enjoying the 30C (86F) heat.

Police said there is no evidence of a terrorist attack at moment as they continue to investigate.

Reutlingen police spokesman, gave a report :

 “Shortly before 4.30pm we received several emergency calls at the police headquarters in Reutlingen, that a man had quarrelled with a woman in the area of the central bus station and she had been injured with a machete. 

“The woman suffered fatal injuries. 

“The perpetrator was arrested a few minutes later close to the scene due to the rapid intervention of the police. 

“The perpetrator injured another woman and a man.

“The suspect is a 21-year-old asylum seeker from Syria. the police knowns him.

“According to current knowledge, he is a lone operator. 

“A threat to the population in and around Reutlingen is not likely.”

Germany has been on edge since an Afghan refugee carried out an axe attack on a train in Würzburg on Monday, injuring five people, four from Hong Kong.

On Friday, just two days before the machete attack, a German teenager of Iranian heritage shot nine people, mainly teens, in the centre of Munich.

David Sonboly planned the horrifying attack for an entire year in retaliation for being bullied.

The 18 year old lured his victims to a McDonald's at the Munich Olympia shopping centre by hacking into a young woman's Facebook and offering teens free meals at the fast food restaurant.

Sonboly's rampage took place on the fifth anniversary of Anders Breivik's killing spree in Norway, in which the far-right terrorist murdered 77 people, mainly children.

The teenager, the son of a taxi driver and a department store worker, was undergoing psychiatric treatment and medical care for depression.

His parents, who have not been named, were said to be too disturbed by their son's horrendous attack to help police in their investigation.

footage captures a humpback whale breaks the surface of the water with its tail and comes within feet of wiping out boat

A humpback whale came within feet of tail-slapping a boat in California – and the dramatic incident was captured on camera.

The footage was posted to YouTube by Stephen Salata, who explained in the description that he was on his way back from tuna fishing when the close encounter took place.

He wrote that he and a co-worker were travelling close to Newport Beach when they spotted some humpback whales eating about a mile away from the harbour.

The boat could be seen moving slowly through the water (left) when the large tail appeared and swiped the air (right)

Stephen added: ‘I was driving around and lost track of them. What you see is some camera footage taken from another boat. They were nice enough to come over and text me the video.

‘The whale’s tail popped up about 15-20 foot in front of my boat and I had to quickly turn to avoid hitting it.'

Jennifer Garner is busy filming her latest movie Miracles from Heaven in Atlanta, but spent her day off giving back to some local children. 

Garner and her costar in the film, Kylie Rogers, visited Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite on Sunday, snapping photos with a 9-year-old named Henry Shepherd.

Henry was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma - a form of bone cancer - last Thanksgiving, and was at the hospital receiving his latest round chemotherapy.

Henry's mother Carrie told Fox Atlanta that her son was thrilled having been a fan of Garner's after seeing her in Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day.

She also described Garner - who visited with the family for about 10 minutes - as 'genuinely nice.' 

That was not the only good news for Henry on Sunday either, as it also marked his second-to-last chemo treatment.

Earlier this year Henry had to have surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his femur, which required his foot to be removed from his leg and then rotated 180 degrees.

It was reconstructed so that his ankle can now function as his knee. 

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with Henry's medical treatments, hoping to raise $100,000. 

'This is a marathon that Henry is running, not a sprint. There will be years of medical bills, physical therapy sessions, and prosthesis fittings,' they write on the page. 

'With your help this financial burden can be alleviated, allowing Henry to move forward and do many "heroic" things in the years to come.'

Garner's new movie tells the story of a terminally ill child who is miraculously healed, based on the book of the same name.

She has been filming in Atlanta the past few weeks and was recently joined there by her estranged husband Ben Affleck.

Garner filed for divorce from Affleck on June 30, just one day after the couples 10th wedding anniversary. 

Affleck was also spotted on Sunday as well, shopping with the couple's daughter Violet.

The two appeared to be buying supplies for the new puppy Affleck was seen carrying last week. 

The pair were seen together and both wearing their wedding bands on Saturday as they got ice cream with children Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.

It was reported on Wednesday by US Weekly that Affleck had begun a relationship with 28-year-old Christine Ouzounian while he and Garner were on a 10-month break prior to their divorce.

Ouzounian was working as a nanny to their three children at the time, but once Garner learned of the relationship she let the woman go from her job. 

The pair were reportedly together last week in Los Angeles, and one friend of Ouzounisn she is calling this 'true love.'

David Beckham been accused of a fashion faux pas - not since the fateful day he stepped out in a sarong.

So the handsome father-of-four walked with conviction when he passed through LAX airport in black slippers on Wednesday.

The 40-year-old fashion influencer and former footballer managed to cut a stylish appearance in all black despite his unorthodox footwear as he prepared to board a London-bound plane.

He drew on many styles for his in-flight image, strapping both shoulders into a youthful backpack and wearing a chain hanging from his belt loops in a throwback fashion.

David paired a muscle T-shirt and skinny black jeans with the sockless look and peeped ever-so-coolly beneath tinted shades.

His new tattoo, obtained while out in the States, gave away his identity, acting as a permanent tribute to his youngest child Harper, three.

David is well known for his impeccable styling, and is widely regarded as one of the best dressed fathers in football.

He was previously ridiculed for wearing a wrap skirt to dinner with his wife in 1998 - something he's never been able to live down.

Though he's always stuck by his sartorial decisions, saying at the end of 2014 that he'd do it all again.

In conversation with ITV's Lorraine, Beckham said: 'Sarongs are great. That's one thing I never regret because I thought it looked great and I would still wear it now. 

Having also sampled many hairstyles over the years, David was instantly recognisable by his signature slicked back hairstyle, despite the fact that he travelled without his brood or faithful wife Victoria.
